New York Sidewalk Breaks Ground With Advertising On New York Food Cart Umbrellas

NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 1997 — The New York Sidewalk
™
city guide from Microsoft Corp. today announced a unique new advertising and marketing program that places New York Sidewalk umbrellas on 200 New York food carts. This effort marks the first time a Web site or any nonfood company has advertised on New York’s food-vendor umbrellas. New York Sidewalk, an online city guide, is available at (http://sidewalk.com/) .

Beginning this week, New York Sidewalk umbrellas will grace 200 vendor carts throughout the city. The umbrellas will primarily be concentrated on vendor carts between 59th and 34th streets, with a less concentrated area between 34th and 14th streets. A few New York Sidewalk umbrellas will also be found in the financial district and in Greenwich Village.

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to reach our audience, and what better place to reach them than on the streets of New York?” said Stu Gold, marketing manager for New York Sidewalk.

This first-of-its-kind promotion is happening in conjunction with PromoCart Inc., a division of PromoCup that has retained the exclusive license to sell advertising on New York’s food cart umbrellas. “Advertising on the umbrella carts is a novel approach for marketers that want to link their brand with the essence of New York, and we’re happy to be working with Microsoft New York Sidewalk as our first vendor cart advertiser,” said Marc Friedman, president of PromoCart.
