Unify Joins With Microsoft to Strengthen E-Commerce Support For Windows DNA

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 5, 1999 — Today Unify Corp., a leading provider of solutions for e-commerce, joined with Microsoft Corp. to announce its continued support of the Microsoft® Windows® Distributed interNet Applications (Windows DNA) architecture, the most comprehensive and integrated application server platform for building distributed applications. Unify also announced it will have a Windows 2000-ready version of Unify VISION for the launch of the Windows 2000 operating system. Unify Corp. now becomes a Microsoft Windows DNA partner.

Unify VISION AppServer
™
and AppBuilder
™
enable companies to deliver e-commerce solutions by integrating their legacy, custom-built and packaged applications with the Internet. Unify’s support of Windows DNA ensures that e-commerce solutions built on the Unify platform will take advantage of the full power and flexibility that Windows DNA has to offer.

Windows DNA is Microsoft’s architecture for building n-tier distributed applications using Internet technologies on Windows. Windows DNA takes advantage of rich client, data-tier, and middle-tier system services and component-based application services that support open technology standards. These services are exposed in a unified way through the Component Object Model (COM), the most widely adopted component model, running on over 150 million systems worldwide. Because of its strong interoperability capabilities, COM enables applications written in any language (such as Visual Basic® , C++, Java or Script) to exchange data and also lowers the cost of integration. In supporting Windows DNA, Unify VISION enhances a customer’s ability to create total e-commerce solutions by seamlessly integrating the diverse set of services and platforms required for today’s e-commerce applications.

“Unify VISION is a critical component in a company’s e-commerce solution, and Unify’s continued support of Windows DNA is assisting companies in using best-of-breed technologies when conducting business on the Internet,”
said Dave Glende, director of Product Management at Unify.
“Our customers view support for key Microsoft architectures such as Windows DNA as critical to the success of their applications. Unify VISION’s support for a broad range of Windows DNA-based technologies provides our customers with the flexibility to deploy their solutions in their increasingly complex environments.”

Unify VISION AppBuilder developers now have a rich set of operating system services and applications technology available that enable them to build integrated enterprise applications without reinventing the wheel,”
said Jigish Avalani, group manager for Windows DNA at Microsoft.
