Microsoft Teams with FairMarket as Part of Online Auction Network

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 20, 1999 — Microsoft Corp., Excite@Home, Ticketmaster-CitySearch Online and FairMarket, Inc. today announced an innovative relationship that provides consumers with a comprehensive auction service. The FairMarket Auction Network — an alliance of auction sites with shared listings — will have the largest worldwide distribution of any auction resource.

Starting today, shared auction listings from FairMarket Auction Network sites will be accessible to MSN.com users, further increasing the site’s value as a complete resource for online shoppers. “Our goal with MSN.com shopping is to provide people with the best way to find, evaluate and purchase products on the Internet,” said Rob Bennett, director of marketing, Consumer and Commerce Group at Microsoft. “By joining the FairMarket network to provide auction services, our users will have access to another great way to buy merchandise on the Web without leaving MSN.com.”

The FairMarket Auction Network pools auction listings from dozens of leading merchant and portal Web sites such as Lycos, Tripod, EarthLink and ZDNet to create a rich resource for buyers and sellers. Auction listings submitted on any FairMarket Auction Network site are accessible throughout the network; as a result, consumers can access these buying and selling opportunities without leaving the comfortable environment of their favorite sites.
