Microsoft Hosts Embedded Systems Global Briefings

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 6, 2000 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that it will kick off a series of worldwide briefings about embedded systems in London on Sept. 12. Additional conferences will be held in Germany, the United States, Japan, Taiwan and China. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) attending the Microsoft Embedded Global Briefings will learn about the Microsoft® Windows® CE and Windows Embedded operating systems, which enable them to easily build flexible and reliable next-generation 32-bit connected devices that provide rich application and Internet capabilities. These conferences offer a great opportunity for Microsoft and industry partners to begin planning for future Windows Powered embedded devices.

Microsoft Vice Presidents Bill Veghte of the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group and Bengt Akerlind of the Embedded Systems Group will open the conferences with a keynote discussing the Microsoft vision and product road map for the embedded and appliance market. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sessions covering business and technical topics. Examples of these sessions include overviews of the Microsoft embedded operating systems — Windows CE 3.0 and Windows NT® Embedded 4.0 — writing applications using eMbedded Visual Tools, and how to work with Microsoft to build Windows Powered embedded solutions.

“We are very pleased with the incredible response from OEMs regarding these embedded systems briefings,”
Veghte said.
“The embedded marketplace is rapidly moving toward connected devices that demand rich Internet services and applications, and Microsoft is committed to continuing to deliver a rich technology portfolio to meet these needs. This is a great opportunity for us to discuss these opportunities with current and future partners.”
