Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Available Nationwide

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11, 2000 — Today at the CompUSA store in San Francisco, Microsoft Corp. will officially launch Microsoft® Office 2001 for Mac, with strong industry support from Apple Computer Inc., FileMaker Inc. and CompUSA Inc. Office 2001 includes updated versions of Word, Excel and the PowerPoint® 2001 presentation graphics program, as well as Entourage™
2001, a new version of the e-mail and personal information manager. Entourage 2001 e-mail and personal information manager helps people communicate and take control of personal information through effortless e-mail management tools and a tightly integrated personal calendar and comprehensive address book that synchronize with Palm OS handheld devices so customers on the go can access all their personal information.

Office 2001 also allows customers to simplify difficult tasks with innovative features that appeared first on the Macintosh, such as the new Office Project Gallery and PowerPoint Movie feature, which lets people save presentations as QuickTime movies.

Office 2001 is the most similar version to the Mac ever created and continues to offer unsurpassed compatibility with Office 2000 for the Windows® operating system.

Office 2001 for Mac will be sold in a reusable plastic CD case, instead of the traditional cardboard box. The estimated retail prices are $499 (U.S.) for the full version and $299 (U.S.) for the upgrade version. More information is available at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ .

System requirements are as follows:

  • Any PowerPC processor-based, Mac OS-compatible system (120MHz minimum clock speed recommended)

  • Apple Mac OS System 8.1 or later (System 8.5 or later recommended)

  • 32 MB of RAM with at least 1 MB of virtual memory for versions previous to 9.0; 48 MB of RAM with at least 1 MB of virtual memory for systems 9.0 and later

  • Approximately 160 MB of hard disk space for a Drag Install; 75 MB for a minimum custom install

  • CD-ROM drive (or connection to a local area network if installing over network)

  • Monitor or display supporting 256 grays or 256 colors, with 640×480 or higher resolution
