Visual Studio .NET and Microsoft .NET Framework Increase Developer Productivity

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 10, 2001 — The key to survival in todays economy is faster time to market. Time to market is often a direct function of developer productivity. The Microsoft® .NET Framework provides a high-productivity programming model that enables developers to use existing skills and code, and eliminates the integration and maintenance issues some other platforms create. Visual Studio® .NET enables developers to choose their most productive programming language and simplifies application development by handling common programming tasks.

For the Xerox Corp. Global Services group, the key was adding value to CentreWare Web, Xerox printer administration software. Xeroxs CentreWare Web is an office software package that installs, configures, manages, monitors and reports on the document management devices in the enterprise, regardless of manufacturer. Xerox has estimated that its adoption of .NET has more than doubled its developer productivity. It took about a year for five people to build version 1 of Xerox CentreWare Web, but it only took five months for four people to build version 2 using the .NET Framework and Visual Studio .NET.

Autodesk Inc. also has experienced the efficiencies of .NET development, implementing a new visualization application to display design information. The first use of this component will be in a Windows® Forms-based application to display Autodesk data and other design formats.
