Rural Hospital Chooses Microsoft Dynamics GP for Healthy Time and Labor Savings

REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 14, 2008 — Holy Infant Hospital of Hoven, S.D., has chosen Microsoft Dynamics GP as its enterprise resource planning solution after evaluating a range of other offerings. Microsoft Dynamics GP is a complete and scalable business management solution that helps growing and midsize organizations get up and running quickly, with robust financial and operational functionality such as business intelligence, reporting, budgeting and forecasting.

Holy Infant’s previous technology had become outdated and was not able to provide reports or detailed financial figures. The hospital evaluated Microsoft Dynamics GP along with software from Dairyland Healthcare Solutions, Computer Programs and Systems Inc. and QuickBooks before selecting the Microsoft solution.

“The reporting capability of Microsoft Dynamics GP was crucial in the consideration,” said Becky Haar, chief financial officer of Holy Infant Hospital. “The solution also was very competitively priced.”

The hospital worked with Microsoft Gold Certified Partner DFC Consultants Ltd. of Fargo, N.D., to implement Microsoft Dynamics GP with core financial capabilities for general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable, along with a module for payroll. DFC also integrated a timekeeping program into Microsoft Dynamics GP to eliminate the hospital’s paper time cards and allow a seamless digital flow into the payroll solution.

In deploying Microsoft Dynamics GP, Holy Infant Hospital expects to gain considerable savings in time and effort while significantly improving the accuracy of its financial operations. Specifically, the hospital anticipates these benefits from Microsoft Dynamics GP:

  • Cost savings. With Microsoft Dynamics GP’s automated and integrated accounting system, the hospital expects to reduce labor costs by 30 percent.

  • Time savings. All departments in the hospital’s administration hope to realize time savings of 50 percent.

  • Improved accuracy of data. Data entered in the hospital’s previous system was only about 80 percent accurate. With Microsoft Dynamics GP, accuracy is expected to increase to nearly 100 percent.

  • Better reporting. The automated reporting capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics GP were a primary benefit that drove the hospital’s decision to choose this solution. Holy Infant moves from a system providing virtually no reports or financial details to one that offers very comprehensive and detailed reporting in an easy-to-use, integrated fashion.

  • Improved cash flow. With invoices prepared and sent more quickly, payments should be received more rapidly as well, leading to financial efficiencies and better cash flow.

  • Easier budget planning. With the budgeting and forecasting features of Microsoft Dynamics GP, its assistance in preparing timely and accurate budgets will be immeasurable.

  • Integration of functions. Another important factor in the hospital’s selection of Microsoft Dynamics GP is its ease of integration — with payroll, with the Microsoft Office suite of applications in which the hospital already had invested, and with other functions — which will enable Holy Infant Hospital to get up and running quickly and cost-effectively with the new technology.

  • IT support and management. Microsoft Dynamics GP, based on the highly reliable Microsoft SQL Server, frees up time for existing IT personnel to support an increased range of IT needs within the hospital.

“Microsoft Dynamics GP has a broad range of capabilities that cover all aspects of our accounting needs,” Haar said.

Holy Infant asserts that Microsoft Dynamics GP’s efficiencies and cost savings will provide a very quick return on investment. “With Microsoft Dynamics GP, a small, rural healthcare facility like Holy Infant Hospital can gain world-class accounting, payroll, reporting and budgeting capabilities, and very significant cost savings right out of the box, with a system that is both affordable and easy to use,” said Michael Park, corporate vice president for Microsoft’s U.S. Dynamics business. “Microsoft Dynamics GP maximizes the productivity of the people in an organization and adapts to its changing needs.”
