Windows Embedded Compact 7 Goes Global at Embedded World 2011

REDMOND, Wash. — March 8, 2011 — In the early days of March more than 18,000 embedded decision-makers, developers and enthusiasts descended upon Nuremberg, Germany, for the 2011 Embedded World Exhibition and Conference. The show has grown year after year since its inception and is now the biggest exhibition of its kind attracting nearly 800 exhibitors from 32 countries.

On site many were focused on Microsoft Windows Embedded news and booth activities. On March 1, 2011, Microsoft announced the availability of the Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform marking 15 years of Microsoft’s embedded leadership, which started with Windows Embedded CE, a real-time operating system for a wide range of small-footprint consumer and enterprise devices.

The excitement around the Windows Embedded Compact 7 announcement was palpable. The booth was crowded with designers and developers looking to see the latest technologies from Windows Embedded and its partners which were showcasing their latest devices for industrial automation, medical, consumer electronics and more. Partners showing off their latest devices built on Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform included Beckhoff, ARM, Freescale, Texas Instruments/MPC Data, Reycom and Adeneo.
