Ouch! ‘Killer Instinct: Combo Breaker Pack’ coming, starting Sept. 23

“Killer Instinct,” one of the launch games for Xbox One, was recently featured as one of the main events of this month’s Evo 2014 fighting game tournament. Now, the pain train continues its journey: Microsoft Studios and the development team at Iron Galaxy are releasing a special retail version of the game, “Killer Instinct: Combo Breaker Pack” starting Sept. 23 for $19.99.

//oneweek hackathon outcome: ‘As individual parts, we were good; together, we were so much better’

Steve Gleason doesn’t take “no” for an answer. And neither does the Ability Hackathon: Eye Gaze team, one of more than 2,200 participating in this week’s //oneweek hackathon. The Eye Gaze team had set out to do a project to help Gleason, a former pro football player who is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Gleason’s foundation aims to raise awareness about ALS, as well as to give others living with it the “leading edge technology, equipment and services” they need.

EMET 5.0, free tool to help IT defend against cyberattacks, is now generally available

“[Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit] is a free tool, designed to help customers with their defense in depth strategies against cyberattacks, by helping block and terminate the most common techniques adversaries might use in comprising systems,” Chris Betz writes in a blog post. EMET 5.0 “further helps to protect with two new mitigations, and with new capabilities giving customers additional flexibility on their deployments.”
