Hyderabad, India – 22 March, 2016: Microsoft India today announced that teams from Indian Institute of Technology (Roorkee) bagged first and second positions while Indian Institute of Technology (Mumbai) stood third in the national level hacking contest, Build The Shield 2016. Furthering its commitment towards security, Microsoft hosts this annual event for universities and colleges across India to provide students a competitive hands-on hacking experience.

This year, more than 300 teams and over 1,200 students participated in the online qualifiers held in January 2016. Of these, 50 teams were shortlisted for the national finale in Hyderabad. The exciting contest, built on Microsoft’s Azure platform, aims to help budding technologists develop skills to tackle both offensive and defensive security issues, interact, engage with emerging security tools, and experiment in a dynamic, collaborative, community-driven environment. Winners of the grand finale received pre-placement interview offers from Microsoft, in addition to exciting goodies like Microsoft Xbox One, Windows Phones and Laptops.

This year’s top 50 academic teams across India demonstrated the levels of passion and innovation that are necessary to accelerate security practices and protect against malicious threats.”
In its third edition now, Build The Shield is a long-standing effort by Microsoft to share its passion for security against increasingly complex security threats with young talent. The contest also gave an opportunity for participants to meet and interact with students from different colleges across the country, compete with challenging teams and brainstorm to fight the security battle alongside an engaging visit to the Microsoft campus at Hyderabad.
