Windows 10 Upgrade Your World Initiative Rolled Out in India

New Delhi, India September 02, 2015 — Microsoft today announced the commencement of the India chapter of Upgrade Your World, a worldwide year-long initiative that celebrates people and organizations who inspire and empower others. As part of this, the company will partner with 10 NGOs in the country and support them with a monetary donation of $50,000 each (totaling half a million dollars for 10 NGOs), and a combination of Microsoft technology, services, and promotional activities. Microsoft has selected five nonprofits, namely Aga Khan Rural Support Program, Enable India, Magic Bus, Smile Foundation, and Udayan Care, and has invited people around the country to vote for their favourite local nonprofit organizations via social media to help select the additional five organizations.

About Upgrade Your World

Microsoft celebrated the launch of Windows 10 on July 29, 2015, by committing to Upgrade Your World, a yearlong initiative that puts the spotlight on individuals and organizations doing great things, including a series of partnerships with 10 global and 100 local nonprofit organizations. A total $10 million cash investment will be made in support of their missions and to promote awareness of their causes.

As part of the global initiative, Microsoft had selected nine global nonprofit organizations and asked people to vote for the tenth. It has announced the tenth global nonprofit partner – Beagle Freedom Project, for their mission in rescuing laboratory animals and supporting animal welfare.

Microsoft will be spotlighting 100 local nonprofit organizations making an impact in 10 countries, including India, Australia, China, France, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Microsoft has already identified 50 of the nonprofit organizations to receive a monetary donation of $50,000 each, and has opened voting for their favorite local nonprofit organizations in each country to help select the additional 50 organizations.

Microsoft is also giving employees worldwide an extra day off to volunteer in their community at any time within the next year. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and organization to achieve more. Upgrade Your World is just one example of the many ways Microsoft contributes to local communities worldwide, as Microsoft and its employees donate more than $1 billion each year to more than 100,000 nonprofit organizations around the world.
