Microsoft, HP Launch CARMI, the Pioneer Healthcare Mobility App in the Philippines

Filipino Nurses First to Benefit from the Pilot Program

Microsoft and HP launched the pioneer healthcare mobility app in the country called the Care Mobility Initiative or CARMI.

CARMI will enable nurses with technologies specifically tailored for the Philippines healthcare industry. The solution integrates the use of Office 365, Skype, Microsoft Dynamics Social Media Listening Tool, Electronic Medical Records, Hospital Information System, and Learning Management System. Furthermore, the app works on HP devices such as HP Stream 8 and HP Pavillion X2.

This solution will allow nurses to be more productive, collaborate as care teams, anytime, anywhere, resulting in better health outcomes for patients. The solution will help reduce paperwork to enable nurses to spend more time caring for the patients contributing towards better quality of care and health outcomes and greater hospital efficiencies. Improved nurse productivity using Microsoft and HP solutions will reduce nurse fatigue, create a better working environment, provide up-to-date skills and help provide better patient satisfaction.

“At Microsoft, we strive to create a lasting impact in the community through our technologies, research, and strategic partnerships. CARMI represents this long-standing commitment to transform the local healthcare industry, create healthier communities, and contribute to the economy at large,” said Karrie Ilagan, General Manager, Microsoft Philippines.

“Our nurses today face challenges as they deliver healthcare services to patients. These challenges include traditional way of collaboration and recording of data. The availability of CARMI will improve the lives of our nurses as healthcare professionals and in turn, the health of Filipino patients,” said Mila Llanes, President of the Philippine Nurses Association.

Throughout 2014, Microsoft has been in consultative discussions with various Philippine healthcare organizations and hospitals to ascertain the needs of the industry and how Microsoft can help address some these needs through technology.

Microsoft is also working with leading partners developing industry-specific apps that drive meaningful innovations in the healthcare industry.

“HP is committed to view needs in the market as an opportunity not just to attain business leadership but help communities grow. Our high involvement in CARMI as devices provider represents this commitment to deliver not just innovative consumer solutions but transformative services for a more progressive healthcare community,” said Alberto Mateo, Jr., HP General Manager.

“Each step that nurses take impacts the health of every patient in the country. If Filipino nurses will be in an improved position to perform their profession through technology, it can create a positive impact in the recovery and health of patients. CARMI marks the critical role that technology plays in paving the road for a more globally competitive Philippine healthcare, and healthier Filipinos,” shared Kit Sumabat, Chief Executive Officer at HealthInformatics, Inc., who led the app development for CARMI.
