MANILA, Philippines, February 2015 – Committed to transforming education in the country with modern-day technologies, Microsoft Philippines joined the global call for Internet safety as it visited one of the public high schools in the city to educate teachers with digital security during the recent World Internet Safety day.

Local Microsoft executives spent the day in Juan Sumulong High School in Quezon City to share their knowledge on how teachers can be much safer with the use of new technologies such as the Internet and mobile devices as they leverage these tools for teaching students in the classroom. With the Marketing and Operations Lead of Microsoft Philippines Cian O’Neill, Microsoft officers shared insightful presentations on tips and tricks, trends, and facts and figures on tech security.

“Microsoft is committed to participating in community activities that build a more progressive way of education. In connection to this, we share not just our knowledge but our time to educate teachers and other stakeholders about Internet safety and security,” said Cian O’Neill, Marketing and Operations Lead of Microsoft Philippines. “Modern-day tools such as the Internet and smart devices are integral to learning; however, these tools can bring harm if users are not aware of the malicious individuals and even crime syndicates that use the Internet to spread malware and compromise user privacy and security. This is one of Microsoft’s many initiatives to ensure Internet safety.”

“According to the International Telecommunication Union, the number of the youth classified to be digital natives in developing nations are expected to double from 2013 to 2018, and awareness initiatives such as this are crucial strengthening data privacy at home and in the classroom,” O’ Neill added.

“We are glad that Microsoft took time to visit our school to educate our teachers with helpful updates on digital security,” said Dr. Zenaida Y. Arao “While the impact of technology has brought new tools to improve learning in the classroom, schools must be constantly reminded that we need to be extra careful with the way we use technology today, share information online, and consume digital content. We are one with Microsoft in the crusade for Internet safety and security.”
