JAKARTA, INDONESIA —
, November 7, 1996 — Setting a new standard for business quality, the four leading domestic Indonesian PC manufacturers have announced a commitment to ship only genuine Microsoft®
software on their computer lines.
Galva Corporation, Multicom Persada International, PT Zyrexindo MandiriBuana PT and Zeuscom Indonesia have signed an agreement to preinstall genuine Windows®
95 operating systems on their PCs manufactured for the domestic Indonesian market.
This agreement is a sign of great progress in protecting the value of software intellectual property in this market, while increasing the business opportunities for Indonesian-based software and hardware companies.
Mr. Tunky Ariwibowo, Minister of Indonesian Department of Trade and Industry, J. Stapleton Roy, US Ambassador to Indonesia, and Microsoft officials attended a public signing ceremony today at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Jakarta to mark this important event.
Representing the Indonesian PC manufacturers were: Messieurs: Oki Widjaja, Director Galva Corporation PT; Wiriadi Tirtariyadi, Director- Multicom Persada International PT; Timothy Siddik, Director – PT Zyrexindo MandiriBuana PT; and Hendra Sutandinata, President & Director Zeuscom Indonesia. Representing Microsoft at the event were Joachim Kempin, Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s OEM Sales, and John Lauer, Regional Director of Microsoft’s Southeast Asia region.
Indonesian PC manufacturers and Microsoft representatives announced their support of this agreement:
This announcement is great news for Indonesian-based software companies who now will be able to thrive by selling into a market that is ripe for local profit. Commenting on this, Mr. Sutandinata, President & Director Zeuscom Indonesia, said:
“I am happy that Microsoft has recognized the importance of the Indonesian IT market and hope that they can work in partnership with the local players to ensure that genuine software becomes the norm in the market. I have been party to several businesses in the IT industry with distribution in various countries, and I’ve seen how a healthy market for licensed software goes hand-in-hand with a healthy market for other IT goods and services.”
Mr Timothy Siddk of PT Zyrexindo MandiriBuana representing zyrex®
computer systems added,
“We fully believe that by installing genuine Microsoft software with our computers, we can assure our customers that they are NOT getting cheap unsupported copied software and won’t get into trouble with the copyrights law. Every single zyrex® PC is shipped with a hard disk pre-installed with original Microsoft Windows 95. Zyrex® is leading in the position to say that not only the first tier PC manufacturers offer original genuine software but also, with the help from and co-operation with Microsoft Corp, zyrex® computer systems feature highly valued genuine software.”
Mr. Tirtariyadi, Director- Multicom Persada International PT, observed,
Like my associates present with me today, I sell systems with the latest and most advanced technology. Mugen Systems need not take a back seat to any foreign manufactured systems in terms of sophistication. It only stands to reason, that the copy of Windows 95 installed with my machines should be similarly licensed from Microsoft. That can give my customers greater assurance that they are getting a quality product.”
Mr. Widjaya further observed,
“Galva Technologies Corporation (GTC) has placed a lot of emphasis on developing quality products for key markets. We are committed to delivering a quality product to the Indonesian PC market. Making genuine software part of the value equation is a key element of our plan and I’m pleased that I was able to help bring the parties together for this event.”
Mr. Kempin, Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s OEM Sales, said,
“I am encouraged by the strong show of support by these four strategic companies, for their vision and foresight in getting on board with a global IT market that puts proper emphasis on protection of software intellectual property. We applaud them for their leadership.”
