Softimage Announces Support for New Silicon Graphics OCTANE System

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 27, 1997 — Softimage Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft Corp., today announced support for the new Silicon Graphics® OCTANE
™workstation. This new platform delivers extraordinary levels of price/performance to customers of Softimage® 3D.

Softimage – among the first companies to support the new line – previewed the latest version of its cutting-edge 3-D animation software, Softimage 3D version 3.7, today at the Silicon Graphics launch event. Scheduled to ship in early spring, this new version of Softimage 3D will take full advantage of the OCTANE architecture, including multiprocessor, texturing and powerful I/O capabilities. Softimage will also support the OCTANE and O2
™
workstation with the next generation of Softimage 3D, code-named
“Sumatra.”

“Softimage is impressed by the architecture in the new OCTANE workstations,”
