SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 28, 1997 — Microsoft Corp. and Viewpoint DataLabs International Inc. today announced the availability of a CD-ROM with 200 3-D models created by Viewpoint in the virtual reality modeling language (VRML) 2.0 standard file format for the World Movers Developers Conference. The CD-ROM, designed specifically for conference attendees, is being distributed by Microsoft in booth 714. This resource will help jump-start the widespread development and use of 3-D on the Web by providing developers with a content source for producing VRML applications and environments.
“Viewpoint’s unparalleled leadership and expertise in 3-D modeling brings tremendous value to Web designers,”
said Kate Seekings, program manager at Microsoft.
“Microsoft is committed to supporting the VRML 2.0 standard for developing 3-D content on the Web. We are pleased to work with Viewpoint to offer developers the highest quality resources available and to fill a void in the industry for 3-D digital content.”
The 3-D models are optimized for the Web in the VRML 2.0 file format specification and adhere to Viewpoint’s quality standards. A variety of object categories from nature and transportation to architecture and accessories is included. Under the terms of the formal licensing agreement, the models are prelicensed by Microsoft and are being distributed on a CD-ROM at no charge to World Movers conference attendees.
