Microsoft declares Imagine the Magic winners

New Delhi, 19,February 1997 — Microsoft today declared the eight winners for the ‘Imagine the Magic’, a contest that has captured the imagination of children nation-wide. As part of their award the winners will present their ideas to Bill Gates, the visionary Chairman of Microsoft Corporation on his forthcoming visit to India.

Imagine the Magic was a nation wide contest launched by Microsoft on the 20 th December 1996 to uncover the most creative and imaginative minds in the country. Microsoft with the help of its official partners – Living Media Limited, United Airlines and Compaq asked children between ages 8 and 18 years to describe what the ‘coolest’ computer could do.

One hundred of the best entries from over 40,000 entries received were displayed at the Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi for viewing. Eight eminent judges selected one winner each from four geographical zones. The selection criteria was based on Creativity, Presentation, Originality of thought, Clarity of ideas and Vision.

The winners will receive a top of the range Compaq Presario multimedia PC pre-loaded with a bundle of Microsoft software and will be flown by United Airlines for an all expense paid trip to the Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle, USA.

Rajiv Nair , Managing Director of Microsoft has headed the Microsoft operations in India, since inception.

Satish Gujral is billed as one of India’s foremost artist since independence. As an artist he has crossed boundaries, by winning the architectural award for design of the Belgian Embassy in New Delhi.

Nafisa Ali Sodhi is a national swimmer and an accomplished horse rider. Her career diversity spans across theatre. Her role in Junoon won her the National film Award.

Shivani Wazir’s career as a TV anchor person spans across several hit serials like Namasta India (Zee TV) and Khoobsurat (Zee TV). She is currently working on a music countdown show called Taj Mahal .

Abhishek Mukherjee has been the Country Manager India for Compaq Computers since 1994.

Arly Gozum is the Manager Alliances & Corporate Sales Marketing Manager. She has been with United Airlines for the past 10 years in Philippines.

N P Singh is the Executive Director for Living Media India Pvt. Ltd. He is also the publisher of Teens Today and Computers Today.

Mr. Vari is the principal of Modern School, one of the finest public schools in the capital.
