Microsoft Joins Cisco’s Enterprise Security Alliance

REDMOND, Wash., and SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 24, 1997 — Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. today announced they will collaborate to integrate and improve security solutions in the enterprise.

Microsoft will be a founding partner of the new Cisco Enterprise Security Alliance. The goals of the alliance are to deploy interoperable, standards-based security across networked clients, servers and infrastructure, and to enable consistent, centrally managed security policy for enterprise customers.

“We share customers that require comprehensive security solutions for their enterprise needs,”
said Rich Tong, vice president of marketing, personal and business systems group at Microsoft.
“Cisco and Microsoft are working through this alliance to integrate necessary technologies to assure end-to-end security.”

“This alliance provides important linkage from the desktop to the enterprise,”
said Alex Mendez, vice president of enterprise marketing for Cisco Systems.
“It provides a secure foundation to deliver enhanced network and application services to authenticated end users regardless of their location.”

Within the Enterprise Security Alliance, Cisco and Microsoft have identified a joint road map for network security. They will develop a common specification and will work together on key technologies such as IPsec and digital certificates.
