Microsoft Launches Intranet Solutions Center Web Site, Comprehensive Resource for Intranet Developers, Decision-Makers

ORLANDO, Fla., May 5, 1997 — Today at Microsoft® TechEd, Microsoft Corp. launched the Intranet Solutions Center (ISC), a free Web site that gives corporate developers and decision-makers a comprehensive resource for quicker, easier development and deployment of intranet business solutions. With 47 sample intranet applications, the site provides the most complete set of free sample business solutions on the market. Along with the applications, the site includes technical support information, white papers, case studies, FAQs, resources and links to third-party Web sites. The Intranet Solutions Center is co-sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Co. as part of the expanding relationship between Microsoft and HP (announced in March 1997), and is available now on the Web at http://www.microsoft.com/intranet/ (connect-time charges may apply).

“We are pleased there is now a central resource for information about intranets and intranet applications: www.microsoft.com/intranet/,” said Tod Nielsen, general manager of developer relations and platform marketing at Microsoft. “The Intranet Solutions Center provides networking and IS professionals a centralized resource with all the information they need to create intranets based on the Windows® platform for distributed computing.”

The Intranet Solutions Center sample applications cover a wide range of intranet solutions of interest to today’s corporate users, including marketing, sales and distribution, electronic commerce, finance, human resources, and information systems. Developers and decision-makers can download live intranet applications and demonstrations as they consider solutions for their own environments. The site includes both applications created on top of Microsoft Internet Information Server and messaging and collaborative applications using the Microsoft Outlook
™
desktop information manager. The combination allows enterprises to maximize their investment in Microsoft technologies by using the most efficient tool for the task.

“Customers will be delighted to find so much useful intranet information in one place,” said Duncan Campbell, worldwide marketing manager, network server division at Hewlett-Packard. “Many companies and organizations worldwide use HP NetServers with Microsoft software to build intranet solutions, and this Web site will allow them to witness the compelling advantages of combining these industry-leading products.”

Solution Provider Support

Seventeen of the applications available on the Intranet Solutions Center are provided by Microsoft Solution Providers. This strong third-party support on the site illustrates the strong commitment that partners are showing for Microsoft technologies. Supporting companies include American Digital Technologies, Copfer & Associates Inc., Digital Genesis, Edgewater Technology Inc., Enterprise MD, Ikon, Lante Corp., M1 Software Engineering, NetGain, Powell Consulting, Raymond James, Sitewerks Inc., Stellcom and WinResources.

“We are excited to have HRWerks included in the Intranet Solutions Center,” said Stephen Orth, HRWerks project manager at Sitewerks Inc. “It enables organizations to experience the combination of Sitewerks and Microsoft Intranet technologies, quickly and easily.”

“The Intranet Solutions Center is the ideal location for users to see how Microsoft products such as NetMeeting
™
and Outlook combine with our own WhiteCap product,” said Paula Grieco, vice president of sales and marketing for Edgewater Technology Inc. “The integration of Microsoft technologies and Edgewater’s Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) product, WhiteCap, allows us to create enhanced solutions like internal support and help desk,
e-commerce, and customer service.”
