REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 15, 1997 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., is deploying Microsoft® Office 97 companywide to more than 2,200 desktops. Harrah’s said the integration and ease of use of Office 97 applications, combined with the ability of the Microsoft Outlook
™
desktop information manager to manage day-to-day and peak information demand, have made Office 97 a corporate standard.
“One of the primary advantages of Office 97 is the integration and data-sharing capabilities between the applications,” said Monica Tyson, IT product manager for Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. “For example, we use the contact information from Outlook to address e-mails, and use Word 97 to generate letters. That means users can now keep track of and communicate with potential customers without spending time re-entering information or jumping back and forth between applications.”
In Harrah’s initial evaluations of the product, users showed increased productivity and required less help. By using features such as the Office Assistant, users were able to more easily understand and utilize new functions in Office that can help them work more efficiently. Tyson said the evaluation team identified several ways Outlook 97 could be used to facilitate efficient time-management practices, including calendaring and journaling capabilities, task assignments and message flags to help establish work priorities.
