Windows CE Expands to include Hard-Real Time Characteristics

In addition to the kinds of devices already powered by the Windows CE operating system–Handheld PCs, Auto PCs, palm-size PCs–future versions of the software will be enhanced to support hard real-time design specifications. This means Windows CE will find its way into a variety of embedded systems-products that monitor and control everything from lighting and heating systems to robotics and factory automation.

During the three-day conference, Microsoft announced several new partnerships with companies that are experts in the embedded systems arena, including embedded software distributors and systems integrators who develop customized systems. These companies are all looking to make Windows CE an integral part of their future embedded systems designs.
