Microsoft Plus! 98 Scheduled to Be Available Worldwide on June 25

REDMOND, Wash., April 29, 1998 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that Microsoft® Plus! 98, the ideal consumer companion to the Windows® 98 operating system, is scheduled to be available worldwide at the same time as Windows 98, on June 25, 1998. Plus! 98 extends the advanced functionality in Windows 98, the operating system that works better and plays better, by adding utilities, themes and games to let customers further manage, customize and enjoy their PC.

Plus! 98 provides utilities to further optimize the performance of users’ machines by extending the powerful self-maintenance features of Windows 98. Plus! 98 offers the following:

  • McAfee

    software, with six months of free updates*, is integrated with the Windows 98 Maintenance Wizard to make scanning for viruses trouble-free.

  • File Cleaner, licensed from CyberMedia Inc., adds to the Windows 98 Disk Cleanup feature to further optimize hard-drive space by offering suggestions for files that can be deleted.

  • Start Menu Cleaner, added to the Maintenance Wizard, cleans up the Start menu by removing broken or nonexistent links and empty folders.

  • Compressed Folders is an archive tool that lets users save disk space by simply dragging and dropping files. Compressed folders look and act just like regular folders in Windows, but offer up to 90 percent compression.

Plus! 98 also offers the following features to make the Windows experience even more fun and entertaining:

  • New Themes help customize the PC’s wallpaper, screen savers, cursors and sounds.
