PeopleSoft and Microsoft Team to Deliver Internet Business Solutions

PeopleSoft Business Network to Feature Enterprise Portal and Community Applications Built on Microsoft Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4, 1999 — PeopleSoft Inc. and Microsoft Corp. today announced that PeopleSoft has selected Microsoft® technologies and standards to develop key elements of the PeopleSoft Business Network (PSBN), including PSBN’s role-based Enterprise Portal and a series of Community Applications. PSBN is an electronic business network, a new class of Internet business solution that will deliver a broad range of relevant information, including applications and content, to a large number of end users through an Enterprise Portal. Announced in November 1998 and scheduled for availability later this year, PSBN is designed to dramatically increase the productivity, effectiveness and satisfaction of every individual within an organization.

The two companies also today announced that Microsoft plans to provide development guidance for the PSBN initiative based on current and future versions of the Microsoft Commerce Platform. PeopleSoft plans to collaborate with Microsoft on the new Extensible Markup Language (XML)-based BizTalk framework for application integration and

PeopleSoft plans to use a broad range of Microsoft products and technologies in the development of the PSBN Enterprise Portal and Community Applications, including the Microsoft Windows NT® Server operating system 4.0, Microsoft SQL Server
7.0, Microsoft Site Server Commerce Edition version 3.0 and Microsoft Exchange 5.5. PSBN also intends to use underlying technologies and tools such as Internet Information Server (IIS), Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM), Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS), Microsoft Message Queue Server and the Visual InterDev
Web development system.

Microsoft will contribute to PSBN’s development effort by providing key Internet business products and technology platforms and establishing a project team that will offer technical guidance and training on specific Microsoft products. Microsoft will create a laboratory to facilitate feedback about and performance testing of the PSBN solution on new and future Microsoft technology platforms. To expedite the development of PSBN, PeopleSoft will designate a dedicated program manager and share technical information with Microsoft. The two companies will work together to promote the development and acceptance of industry standards in support of electronic business networks and enterprise portals.
