Microsoft Great Plains Business Solutions Introduces Web Parts for SharePoint Portal Server

FARGO, N.D., May 1, 2001 — Microsoft Great Plains Business Solutions today announced the availability of Web Parts for Microsoft’s Digital Dashboard Resource Kit (DDRK) 3.0 and Microsoft® SharePoint™
Portal Server. The digital dashboard is a customizable portal framework that enables knowledge workers to view and collaborate on personal, team, corporate and external information. Web-based content can be integrated into the portal via Web Parts, offering businesses an effective way to integrate any existing enterprise systems into their corporate portal. SharePoint Portal Server, a flexible portal solution from Microsoft Corp. that allows companies to easily find, share and publish information, is the first Microsoft product to be based on the digital dashboard framework.

Microsoft Great Plains will provide five Web Parts for DDRK 3.0 and SharePoint Portal Server. These Web Parts include Company Directory, Employee Business Card, Customer Directory, Customer Business Card and Vendor Directory. SharePoint Portal Server customers will be able to access their Great Plains Dynamics, Solomon IV and eEnterprise solutions through these Web Parts. In addition, customers can rapidly deploy an out-of-the-box portal site and use Microsoft Great Plains Web Parts to augment their solution.

“Our Web Parts complement SharePoint Portal Server and the digital dashboard extremely well,”
said Lynne Stockstad, vice president of e-business at Microsoft Great Plains.
“They enable customers to efficiently and effectively extend the information stored within their mission-critical business solutions to the desktops of all employees within the organization.”

The Company Directory and Employee Business Card Web Parts work in conjunction and interactively with each other, and provide an online employee phone directory and employee profile information reflective of information maintained in a company’s Dynamics, Solomon IV or eEnterprise solutions. The Customer Directory and Customer Business Card provide similar information for customers, while the Vendor Directory provides an online vendor phone and contact list.

“The digital dashboard framework enables Microsoft Great Plains to extend SharePoint Portal Server solutions and provide added benefit to knowledge workers,”
said Jeff Teper, general manager of the SharePoint Portal Server Business Unit at Microsoft.
“These Microsoft Great Plains Web Parts are rapidly deployable and benefit customers by allowing them to view vital information on the desktop.”
