Microsoft and Microsoft Healthcare Users Group Announce Finalists For the 2001 Industry Solution Awards for Healthcare

REDMOND, WASH. SEPT. 7, 2001 — Microsoft Corp. and Microsoft Healthcare Users Group (MS-HUG) Inc. today announced 21 finalists for the 2001 Industry Solution Awards for Healthcare. The awards recognize independent software vendors in the healthcare industry that best utilize Microsoft® technology. An independent panel of judges selected the finalists based on their use of Microsoft Windows®
2000 Server, Microsoft SQL Server (TM) 7.0 or higher, and Microsoft enterprise platform technology to provide tangible business benefits to healthcare organizations.

A preliminary judging panel of industry experts and analysts selected finalists in seven categories from approximately 77 entries. These finalists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their applications in the Microsoft booth at Windows on Healthcare 2001, http://www.windowsonhealthcare.com/ , the seventh annual conference to be held in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

The seven categories were acute care-administrative/financial systems, acute care-clinical/patient information systems, ambulatory care-administrative/financial systems, ambulatory care-clinical/patient information systems, managed care, emerging technologies and other.

“We are pleased to recognize these finalists and their ability to develop innovative applications using Microsoft enterprise platform technology to enable healthcare organizations to reduce costs and improve the quality of care,” said David Lubinski, general manager for Health and Public Sector, Enterprise Solutions and Industry Group at Microsoft. “These solutions take advantage of the interoperability and scalability of Microsoft’s family of enterprise servers and platform technology to offer healthcare organizations powerful solutions that maximize productivity and increase business value.”

One winner in each category will be announced in a special ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. in Microsoft booth No. 533 during the Windows on Healthcare 2001 conference at the San Diego Convention Center.

Jeff Raikes, group vice president of the Productivity and Business Services Group at Microsoft, will deliver his keynote address, “Microsoft’s Vision and Strategies for Healthcare: A View From the Top,” Oct. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Windows on Healthcare 2001 conference at the convention center.
