Microsoft Appoints Mike Sinneck Vice President Of Worldwide Services Organization

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 8, 2002 — Microsoft Corp. today announced the appointment of Mike Sinneck as its new vice president for worldwide services. Sinneck comes to Microsoft with more than 30 years of experience supporting enterprise customers in the application of technology to strategic business issues. Most recently, Sinneck was vice president for business operations of IBM Global Services Americas.

At Microsoft, Sinneck will be responsible for further developing and strengthening the company’s integrated consulting services and product support organization, enhancing partner relationships to drive the adoption of Microsoft®
technology, and helping customers succeed.

The worldwide services organization was created in April 2001 to better meet the needs of Microsoft’s customers by establishing a more formal integration between Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS) and Product Support Services (PSS). Under the leadership of Vice President Robert McDowell, the worldwide services organization has become a champion of bringing enterprise solutions to market that meet customers’ unique business challenges. With Sinneck at the helm, the worldwide services organization will continue its mission to give customers the agility, service and support they need to succeed in today’s market.

Sinneck joins Microsoft after a 32-year career with IBM, where he played a key role in building IBM’s services portfolio and served as the global liaison to Microsoft. As vice president for business operations of IBM Global Services Americas, Sinneck was responsible for profit and loss operations of Business Innovation Services, an integrated consulting and systems integration unit.

At Microsoft, Sinneck will play a key role in continuing the integration of MCS and PSS, as well as the key goal of enhancing partner relationships and identifying opportunities for Microsoft and partners to together drive the adoption of the Windows®
operating system, the .NET Platform and .NET Enterprise Servers.

McDowell will continue to work in the services organization, helping Sinneck make the transition into his new role. He will remain a vice president and move into another customer-focused role where he will provide continued support to Microsoft’s enterprise sales effort.
