MIAMI, Feb. 4, 2002 — YupiMSN ( http://www.yupiMSN.com/ ), the joint venture between Tel
é
fonos de Mexico (TELMEX) and Microsoft Corp., today announced that according to the Roslow Hispanic Internet Usage Study, conducted in the fourth quarter of 2001, the YupiMSN network of sites tops the charts in site appeal. The study confirmed the status of YupiMSN as most favored among users. The study also reported that — compared with users of competitiors’ sites — YupiMSN users visited more often and spent more time with the site per session.
The study revealed that Hispanic Internet users are spending 55 percent of their time online using the Web in Spanish vs. 45 percent in English. Just six months ago, Hispanics were using the Web in Spanish only 30 percent of the time. As Hispanics become more Internet savvy, and as more Spanish-language online offerings become available, they are spending more time online. According to Roslow, the typical Hispanic user spends an average of 58 minutes online per session; specifically, the traditional YupiMSN user visits 8.9 times a month and spends 44.1 minutes per session.
“YupiMSN has always appealed to a loyal and valuable base of U.S. Hispanic users; the Roslow report serves to confirm this,”
said Oscar Co
ë
n, president of YupiMSN.
”
The study reaffirms that YupiMSN users also are our greatest fans: They love our best-of-breed products; they visit us more often and stay with us longer.
“At YupiMSN we make every effort to deliver the most relevant and useful Internet experience to our users. They continue to return, bringing along family and friends. It is a strategic priority for YupiMSN to be able to offer our advertisers such a loyal and valuable user base — our users have really made us their home on the Web.”
“The online U.S. Hispanic market is a powerful one and has come of age. As players such as Microsoft recognize the potential of the Spanish-language media market and offer their products in Spanish through YupiMSN, it is no surprise that usage incidence keeps growing and that Hispanics are spending more and more time online in Spanish rather than English,”
said Peter Roslow, CEO of Roslow Research.
Other interesting findings from the Roslow study include these:
-
Among Hispanics 16 years of age and older, half are using the Internet.
-
The average U.S. Hispanic user is approximately 30 years old.
-
Approximately half of U.S. Hispanics are bilingual and half are Spanish-dominant.
-
About 78 percent of U.S. Hispanic users have computers at home.
-
Among U.S. Hispanic users, 75 percent typically use the Internet to check e-mail,
61 percent use it to do research, and 48 percent to use it get news. -
The percentage of men and women using the Internet is roughly equal, at 52 percent and 48 percent respectively.
