Microsoft Statement on U.S. Attorney Arrest in Blaster Virus Attack

SEATTLE, Wash. — Aug. 29, 2003 — Today in Seattle, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of an individual allegedly responsible for the Blaster Virus.

The following is a statement from the company on todays announcement:

Microsoft thanks the FBI, Secret Service and US Attorneys office for the prompt and effective manner in which they have investigated this incident. We remain committed to cooperating with law enforcement in this ongoing investigation. The arrest announced today demonstrates how important it is for governments and the private sector to work closely together to protect the global IT infrastructure. This arrest also serves as a reminder that it is a crime to distribute viruses with the intent to cause damage. We also recognize that protecting computers requires more than just cooperation with law enforcement, but truly a partnership between us and our customers. We are committed now more than ever to building more secure software that is resilient to attack while preserving the rich computing experience that our customers expect.
