Microsoft Showcases Industry Partnerships and Collaboration at Management World 2009

NICE, France — May 6, 2009 — This week at Management World 2009, Microsoft Corp. will showcase the value of the partner model in the telecommunications industry. Microsoft will demonstrate the results of collaboration with Logica, MetraTech Corp., Microsoft Surface, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Tribold highlighting a new product, customer, service and revenue management scenario.

“Microsoft has one of the most extensive partner programs in the industry, and we are committed to driving innovation through investments in our partner ecosystem,” said Terry McGuigan, director, telecommunications industry, in the Communications Sector at Microsoft. “In a challenging economy and a competitive industry, it’s not simply about offering basic products, it’s about a strong software-plus-services strategy and solutions that can help telcos improve their business vitality. We want our partners to be able to take advantage of the assets we offer and to bring efficiency and value to their business.”

Content Encounter

Microsoft is participating in the TeleManagement Forum Content Encounter (Phase 4), a demonstration program in which the communication and media industries collaborate on new ways to create, deliver and monetize digital media services. Microsoft’s contribution to the demo, titled “Business Optimization: Profitably Operationalize New Business Models in the New Digital Economy,” is Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 with a Microsoft Silverlight application to dynamically offer content for purchase, based upon subscriber and network information from the Telcordia Real-Time Policy solution. To help monetize services, the Microsoft Advertising solution will return specific advertisements based upon search and policy information evaluated in real time against network information, such as location, and delivered to various mobile devices.

Speaker Engagements

In addition, Microsoft will take an active role in the education program at the Management World 2009 conference. Eric Troup, senior principal architect in the Communications Sector at Microsoft, is participating in two panel sessions discussing advanced services delivery and cloud providers. Richard Koh, director of technical product management, Business Online Services Group, will discuss Microsoft Online Services syndication with strategic partners, and Rainer Kellerhals, global media and entertainment solutions lead, Microsoft Communications Sector, will lead a session on the digital media value chain.

TM Forum Excellence Awards

Microsoft has been nominated for a TM Forum Excellence Award in the Best Practices Award — Service Provider category for its Online Services offering. This is based on work Microsoft undertook on its software-plus-services strategy including Azure Services Platform, Live Services and Online Services in 2008. Microsoft realigned its existing business applications to support a service provider business as would be needed for Online Services and set out to implement a new billing support system/operational support system (BSS/OSS) stack based on the TM Forum New Generation Operations Systems and Software reference architecture to accelerate its implementation, instrumenting it with TM Forum Business Benchmarking metrics. Using enterprise architecture modeling tools, Microsoft architected and delivered its BSS/OSS stack in just eight months.
