Employee giving tops $1 billion

When Microsoft launched its giving program in 1983, around 200 employees raised $17,000 for nonprofit organizations. By the 30th annual campaign, U.S. workers had raised $1 billion for nonprofits and community groups worldwide.

About 65 percent of Microsoft’s U.S. workforce participates in the program, and the company matches employee donations of time and money. In 2017, employees volunteered 700,000 hours for nonprofits — equal to more than 336 full-time jobs for a year.
