Rural internet project announced

Millions of Americans living in rural areas lack access to a high-speed internet connection.  Microsoft is helping close that gap through its Airband initiative, a five-year commitment to bring broadband access to 3 million Americans living in rural communities by 2022.

The company is working with hardware manufacturers and partnering with internet service providers that are using a mix of technologies including 4G and TV white spaces, fiber-based connectivity and satellite coverage.
