Happy International Day of Happiness!

Every year on March 20th, the International Day of Happiness aims to celebrate happiness all over the world, inspiring people to spread positivity with others.

For far too long, progress in the world has been all about the economy. But more people are realizing that happiness is also an essential part of progress.

On this special day, Microsoft Southeast Asia New Markets encourages you to create more happiness around you. Happiness is a state of mind, it is about your thoughts, perceptions, and emotions. People might differ in what makes them happy. Some delight in a good cup of coffee. Others are glad when their pets greet them at the door.

At Microsoft we each strive to include others by holding ourselves accountable for diversity, and creating an inclusive work environment. Through this commitment we can allow everyone the chance to be their authentic selves and do their best work every day.

Here’s a look at a few habits to help kickstart your journey. Just remember that everyone’s version of happiness is a little different, and so is their path to achieving it.

Spread ideas that promote wellbeing

We can improve our quality of life by working together. This can include creating a resourceful environment, built upon a partnership of the community and creating inclusive and supportive communities around you. Be it simple as sharing a nice meal with children at an orphanage, teaching digital skills to kids or a bigger community service as building a well to provide water for 20 families in a rural area of the country, sponsoring a child who is in need, what matters is creating a surrounding to give equal opportunity for everyone.

Be an ally to better understand one another

The people in our lives matter. Good relationships are one of the best ways to enjoy happiness, health, and well-being. When we are there for the people in our lives — and when they’re there for us — we are more resilient, resourceful, and successful.

Love yourself so you can love others

We need to spend more time looking within ourselves. It’s easier to love others than it does to love yourself. However, loving yourself is equally important as you do for others. Do what you love!
