Microsoft launches Cybercrime Satellite Centre to advance Cybersecurity in Singapore and Asia Pacific

Microsoft today officially launched its new Cybercrime Satellite Centre in Singapore, one of five globally including in Beijing, Berlin, Tokyo and Washington. Set up as a satellite extension of the Microsoft Cybercrime Centre in Redmond, USA, the Centre in Singapore will serve as the regional hub for Microsoft to undertake cybercrime and cybersecurity initiatives in the Asia Pacific region, through public-private partnerships and cross-industry collaboration.

Cost of cybersecurity breaches highest in Asia Pacific

Enterprises in Asia Pacific (APAC) are expected to spend nearly $230 billion in 2014 to deal with issues caused by malware deliberately loaded onto pirated software — $59 billion dealing with security issues and $170 billion dealing with data breaches — according to a new joint study conducted by IDC and the National University of Singapore (NUS).
