Test your mind at the 2010 Imagine Cup

Australia’s young technology minds are being urged to register for the 2010 Imagine Cup. The Microsoft initiative, open to students 16 years and older, is the world’s premier student technology competition, encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to bring to life technology innovations that can make a difference in the today’s world.
This year’s theme is ‘Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.’
“The Imagine Cup inspires students to use their creativity to help change the world for the better by discovering new ways to use technology to address some of the world’s toughest Challenges,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer 1. “Some of the greatest innovations and companies of tomorrow will be created by today’s students.”
Open to students around the world, the Imagine Cup is a serious challenge that draws incredible talent, and the competition is intense. Now in its eighth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a global event.
In 2008 an Australia team won the global Imagine Cup finals and in 2009, more than 300,000 students from 142 countries entered the Imagine Cup competition. The contest spans one year, beginning with local, regional, and online contests with the finalists going on to attend the Worldwide Finals, to be held in Warsaw, Poland in July this year.

Software Design

This is for the best programmers, thinkers, and solution builders to go after the really tough problems

This category has local finals in Australia with local prizes which, in the past, have included Xbox consoles, Windows Mobile phones, internships at leading software development companies, and more
Embedded Development

Embedded devices are becoming smarter, more powerful, and woven seamlessly in to our everyday lives
Game Design
-
Use 3D or 2D, make it multi-level or single player but don’t forget one crucial thing – you have to take on the 2010 Theme in your game.
Digital Media

Use the internet to share your point of view, explain, and touch on issues in our global society that relate to the 2010 Theme.
IT Challenge

Systems are behind everything technical thing we do: from a single computer to massive enterprise infrastructures. The IT Challenge asks you to become a master at making those systems work. You will be tested on your knowledge, faced with unique scenarios and diverse customer needs to solve at every twist and turn.
