Microsoft Announces Winner in Ultimate Student House Competition

Microsoft Announces Winner in Ultimate Student House Competition

19 April, 2010 | Sydney, Australia

Sydney University student Lauren Davies has won 7 months rent free in the house of her dreams packed to the roof with the latest technology prizes – thanks to Microsoft’s recent Windows 7Student Share House campaign.

“Olivia and I made a lot of noise about our world record attempt and captured the attention of FBI Radio, mX and millions of people on facebook. We even scored a story and our photograph on the gossip blog ‘What Would Tyler Durden Do?’. We dressed up in Windows 7 outfits and handed out 4,000 flyers at the Easter Show. It was tough work especially hugging over a thousand people!

“To win this enormous prize is just mind blowing. I’m at uni five days a week and work a casual job as well. I can’t wait to move out of home with Olivia! To win 7 months’ rent-free anywhere in Sydney as well as a stash of cool tech gear – it’s amazing,” she said of her experience.

“We have been blown away by the level of excitement and energy that so many students have brought to the Share house competition. Technology is such an important part of a student’s life these days, and it’s been great to see how creative the students have been in connecting with the Windows 7 experience. Judging the competition was extremely difficult, but we’re delighted to announce Lauren as our winner,” said Jeff Putt, Windows Consumer Lead for Microsoft Australia.

Now the search is on to find Lauren’s ultimate house.

“I’m moving out with Olivia, so we think a warehouse-style apartment would be pretty cool, somewhere inner city, close to pubs and restaurants and close to uni. The first thing we’re going to do is have a house party and say thanks to Microsoft for giving us this wonderful opportunity,” Lauren concluded.

Lauren’s video of her entry can be viewed on YouTube and some of the most outstanding entries can be seen on the Facebook Fan Page.
