Microsoft leadership change in Asia-Pacific region

3 December, 2010 | Singapore

Microsoft is today announcing the appointment of Tracey Fellows as the new Area Vice President for Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. In her role, she will oversee sales, services and marketing for 12 countries in Asia Pacific and will report to Jean-Philippe Courtois, President of Microsoft International. Ms. Fellows is currently the Managing Director of Microsoft’s Australia subsidiary.

“Tracey has delivered stellar results for Microsoft in Australia, and in doing so, has become a highly respected and popular leader in the technology community there,” Courtois said. “I know she can bring those successful characteristics to a wider, regional leadership role.”

Tracey Fellows migrated to Australia from Canada in her high school years. She now has over 20 years’ experience in the technology industry, having served in senior roles at Dell and IBM, before joining Microsoft in 2003 in the Marketing division, first as the lead for Server Products, then as the Marketing Director before being promoted to Managing Director in 2007.

Ms. Fellows will succeed Emilio Umeoka, who is leaving Microsoft in late December to pursue a new career opportunity in the US, closer to his family.

“The Asia Pacific region is incredibly diverse and dynamic,” Ms. Fellows said. “It is also a place where we can do much to deliver on our mission to make technology available to the next generation of users, and I am keen to make the most of the opportunity to work with our partners and governments around the region to deliver on that commitment.

“I am passionate about education and the role that technology can play in developing skills and improving learning, as well as advancing the role of women in the IT industry. We have a track record supporting these goals, and I am keen to ensure we build on these very strong foundations,” Ms Fellows said.

The Asia Pacific Area for Microsoft includes country subsidiaries in Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Across the region, Microsoft is committed to helping these diverse countries increase the competitiveness, productivity and efficiency of local businesses and governments and drive consumer excitement through the power of technology and the cloud.

Cloud computing represents tremendous opportunity for Asia Pacific across industries and Ms. Fellows will play an instrumental role in helping accelerate cloud adoption in the region.

Ms Fellows will take over the Area Vice President role on 22 December 2010, and will relocate to Singapore, from Sydney, to take up her new role.
