Microsoft Launches Windows 8 in Australia

SYDNEY, Australia — 26th October, 2012 — Today, Microsoft announced the availability of Windows 8 in Australia and around the world. Beginning on Friday, 26th October, consumers and businesses worldwide will be able to experience all that Windows 8 has to offer, including a beautiful new user interface. With the official opening of the Windows Store, users will also have access to a wide range of apps.

Windows 8 will be available for download to upgrade existing qualifying Windows PCs in more than 140 markets worldwide and 37 languages at www.microsoft.com including Australia. More than 200 devices, including Surface, will be available to Australian customers.

To help showcase the new Windows, Microsoft is partnering with eight inspiring Australians who use technology to connect with the things they love across work and play. Representing a variety of passions and interests from sport, food, fashion and the great outdoors, the Windows 8 ambassadors will feature in official Australian launch activities from 26th October, 2012. At launch, Windows 8 Pro will be available for purchase as a Full Packed Product (off the shelf product). While for business customers, Windows 8 Enterprise offers new possibilities in mobile productivity with features like Windows To Go, DirectAccess, and BranchCache, as well as enhanced end-to-end security with features including BitLocker and AppLocker.

Windows RT, designed for ARM-based tablets, will be launching simultaneously and is available pre-installed on new devices. Windows RT features the new fast and fluid Start screen that gives people one-click access to the apps and content they care about most. Consumers will also have the benefit of the entirely new Internet Explorer 10 which is perfect for touch and comes with built-in cloud capabilities thanks to SkyDrive.

In addition, consumers can also upgrade their existing PCs and laptops. Through to the end of January, consumers currently running PCs with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, are qualified to download Windows 8 Pro for AUD $39.99 at www.microsoftstore.com. Eligible Windows 7 PCs purchased between 2 June, 2012, and 31 January, 2013 in more than 140 countries can download Windows 8 Pro for AUD $14.99 with the Windows Upgrade Offer, available at www.windowsupgradeoffer.com. Windows 8 Pro as Full Packed Product is available for $69.99 RRP at local retailers and at www.microsoftstore.com.
