Bing unveils Britain’s top search trends for 2013

It’s that time of year again, when we look at what Britain loved to search for most on Microsoft’s search engine, Bing.

Well the results are in and pipping everyone to the post as the most searched for person this year was Justin Bieber! He beat Beyonce into second position and both surprisingly trumped our very own Duchess of Cambridge into third. It seems even with a royal baby, Brits still couldn’t get enough of Justin.

Interestingly, nine of the top ten searched people were female and also included the likes of Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Selena Gomez.

The nation’s favourite lads, One Direction are not surprisingly the most searched for music artists, followed by Justin Bieber and Beyonce. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Thrift Shop was the most searched for song of 2013 followed by Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines in the second spot and Florida Georgia Line’s Cruise in third.

Arsenal tops the list of most searched for sports teams in Britain ahead of Liverpool, echoing the current Premier League table. Lionel Messi was the most searched for sportsperson, beating Luis Suarez and Britain’s very own Gareth Bale who has replaced Victoria Pendleton as the nation’s most searched for local sportsperson. Football is well and truly back on the top spot after 2012’s surge of the Olympians – but for the first time in a long time Wayne Rooney doesn’t make the top 10!

Reality TV appears to have lost popularity in 2013, with programmes like Big Brother and X Factor being beaten by British soaps Coronation Street and Eastenders, which have taken the top two positions of most searched for television programmes. In particular, X Factor dropped from third position in 2012 to twelfth this year.

In electronic devices, Xbox was the most searched for followed by the iPhone and the iPad.
