The UK has the potential to become a leading light in the global digital economy. Last week, the first ever London Technology Week helped take this opportunity one step further by showcasing the very best this amazing city has to offer, positioning homegrown talent alongside the world’s leading technology companies.
UK developers are diverse, ranging from established and emerging devs to students and those who are looking to start their own business; the vast majority believe they have barely scratched the surface of what is possible in their profession. The difficulty is that even those developers that are amongst the most digitally savvy in the UK workforce are faced with significant challenges in terms of technical, creative and business skills.
Despite the obstacles, Britain’s ‘Brave Developers’ continue to forge ahead as they either knowingly or unknowingly strive to build a winning UK digital economy. From Microsoft’s experience and research, UK developers fall into four distinctive camps with different needs. They include: the Master Codesmen, high-end app development specialists with significant experience; the Digital Industrialists, emerging developers responsible for driving mainstream adoption of applications; the New Shrewds, market entrants bringing innovation, energy and excitement to the digital economy and the Game Changers, gaming and hobbyist developers that represent the passion and future potential of the UK digital economy.
In order to help these Brave Developers navigate their way through some of the complexities of the ecosystem, Microsoft has created the London Technology Week Map which helps you identify which developer profile fits you most closely and how Microsoft can help your app development efforts.
The map illustrates the London Tech Week events which created the greatest buzz in social and other media, indicating which topics were the main focuses of the week. To use it, simply find one of the events you attended (marked as “stations”) or one that interests you, and trace the line to find out which profile most closely resembles your developer path today.
