Rockstar Energy Drink is selling a limited edition can in the UK to mark the upcoming release of Gears of War 4 on Xbox.

From October 1, fans will be able to collect under-the-tab codes on special cans of Rockstar Energy Original and use them online to unlock exclusive in-game content. Gamers will also be entered for competitions to win more than 500 prizes, including Xbox One S consoles, Samsung HDTVs and games.

The UK can design features a yellow skull, the red Gears of War logo and a Lancer, one of the weapons used by the soldiers in the popular gaming series. The third-person game focuses on the war between humans, a subterranean species known as the Locust Horde and their mutated counterparts, the Lambent.

While Rockstar will release one special can in the UK, the US will get four. The designs by artists Jesse Hernandez – who designed the UK can – Hydro74, and GodMachine will be featured on 16-ounce cans of Rockstar Energy Original and Punched across North America.

“The universe of Gears is all its own; both the game world and the art that it’s inspired,” said Guy Welch, director of marketing at Xbox. “For over 10 years, Gears has been fortunate to collaborate with many of the artists we admire including – most recently tattoo artist Steve Soto, comics legend Tony Moore (The Walking Dead, Batman), composer Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones), and hip-hop duo Run the Jewels. The Rockstar Energy programme allowed us to meet and develop relationships with a wide range of new artists over the past year, and we’re proud to welcome them to the Gears family.”

Gears of War 4 is set for release on October 11 but is available to pre-order now. Gamers can also buy a special Gears controller and a limited edition Xbox One S bundle.

It is also one of the first titles to be released under Microsoft’s new Play Anywhere programme, which allows gamers to buy titles on either Xbox or a Windows 10 PC and play them on both at no extra cost. Plus, when you start playing any Xbox Play Anywhere game, you can pause and pick back up where you left off on another Xbox One or Windows 10 PC, taking all your saves, game add-ons and Achievements with you.

Fans of the drinks can artwork can download desktop wallpapers for their PC, tablet or mobile device from xbox.com.
