Xbox gives UK gamers access to hundreds of titles online as subscription service goes live

Xbox has launched its new subscription service in the UK, giving gamers unlimited access to more than 100 titles.

Xbox Game Pass lets users play a range of Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games for just £7.99 a month. These include Halo 5: Guardians, NBA 2K16, LEGO Batman, Bioshock, Gears of War and Borderlands, as well as retro classics such as Streets of Rage and Mega Man.

New games will be added every month, replacing others in a constantly updated library.

Gamers can play titles from Microsoft Studios – including 343 Industries, The Coalition and Rare – as well as 2K, 505 Games, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, Capcom, Codemasters, Deep Silver, Focus Home Interactive, SEGA, SNK CORPORATION, THQ Nordic GmbH and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.

Players can download full Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 titles directly to their console, removing issues around streaming, bandwidth and connectivity.

All Xbox One games in the catalogue are available to purchase at an exclusive discount for Xbox Game Pass members.

What is Xbox Game Pass?

Parimal Deshpande, Director of Xbox Product Marketing, said: “All of us at Team Xbox have been incredibly excited by the positive reception toward Xbox Game Pass so far, and we’re really eager for the entire Xbox community to get their ticket to endless play in the coming days. We hope you love it as much as the gamers on our team who helped create it.”

The service has been launched in 31 Xbox markets across the world, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US.

The move comes as Xbox prepares to launch the most powerful console ever made – Project Scorpio.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, told the UK News Centre recently that he will talk about some of the most exciting upcoming Xbox games at E3 – the annual videogame conference in Los Angeles – later this month. “It’s about the breadth of games we are seeing on Xbox. I want to spend the time on stage [at E3] showing how great first-party and third-party games are going to look on Scorpio, as I truly believe the best versions of games will be running on it,” he said.
