The Xbox One X has become the fastest-selling Xbox pre-order ever, Microsoft has confirmed.

Gaming fans could reserve a special edition version of the console on Sunday, August 20 ahead of its release on November 7. Just five days later, the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition has sold out in many countries across the world.

The huge demand means there have been more pre-orders for the Scorpio Edition than the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One or Xbox One S consoles in the same timeframe.

The new console is out of stock on the Microsoft UK Store website.

Guy Lister, Chief Operating Officer at GAME Retail, said: “Our customers have been eagerly awaiting Xbox One X. This excitement has translated into the demand of pre-orders for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition. We’re excited to see our loyal community of gamers get hands-on with the console and to see everything that the most powerful console has to offer.”

The Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever made, offering 40% more power than rival devices. Its six-teraflop engine and built-in supersampling gives gamers better textures, smoother framerates and faster load times, even on a 1080p TV. Players can record game clips in 4K at 60 frames per second and capture 4K screenshots.

The Project Scorpio Edition has the words “Project Scorpio” printed on the console and the wireless controller, features a custom colour and comes with a vertical stand. Xbox announced the start of pre-orders at gamescom, Europe’s largest videogame event, where the Xbox One X won an award for best hardware.

Microsoft also revealed that more than 100 new and existing Xbox One titles will be enhanced for the Xbox One X. These include Halo 5, NBA 2K18, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, ReCore: Definitive Edition, FIFA 18, Star Wars Battlefront II and Below.

Details about the next wave of Xbox One X standard edition pre-orders will be announced in September.
