PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launches as an Xbox console launch exclusive on December 12

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, one of the most popular online multiplayer games, will be released on the Xbox One before any other console.

The multiplayer online battle royale will still be available to play on Windows 10 PC, but will be a console launch exclusive to Xbox. It will also be enhanced for the Xbox One X, which is out on November 7, with HDR support.

In the game, up to 100 players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. It has proved to be a huge hit since its release for Microsoft Windows in March, selling more than 18 million copies.

From December 12, gamers can play the title via the Xbox Game Preview programme. It will be slightly different to the PC version as Xbox is “approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that we’ve taken with the game on PC”, Chang Han Kim, Chief Executive of PUBG Corp, said in blog post.

“Both [Xbox and PC] versions are being developed at the same time, but they both have their own separate roadmaps,” he added. “Various Xbox One features and functionality will change and come online over time just like they have on PC, with our goal being to have both versions align to each other as soon as possible.”

When PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launches on the Xbox One in December, gamers can enjoy three limited-edition cosmetic packs – the PUBG Warrior Pack, the PUBG Accessory Pack and the PUBG Tracksuit Pack.

“These packs are exclusive to Xbox fans as standalone offers available for a limited time and as there are no plans to feature any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version, are the only items that can be purchased during the preview period,” Chang Han Kim said. “We’re super excited to be able to bring these to Xbox One fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game as a special thank you for your patience and passion for PUBG. We’ll be sharing more details on timing and pricing in the weeks ahead.”

PUBG Corp will also launch the 1.0 version on PC and Xbox in late-December.
