A new BT Sport app has made it even easier for Xbox owners to keep up with their favourite sports.

Launching today, a week ahead of the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds, the new app provides access to BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3, ESPN, Boxnation and the BT Sport Extra channels, at no extra cost to BT Sport customers.

The app will make it easier to access the service, allowing viewers to jump into the action without the need for a set-top-box, while allowing existing BT Sport customers to take advantage of a second screen at home.

BT Sport has also revealed plans to release on-demand content, highlights, TV listings and the BT Sport 4K UHD channel later this year, bringing sport to life in stunning clarity. Further confirmed enhancements include High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality, which preserves more details in light and dark areas of the picture, while providing more natural colours.

Plans for advanced user customisation have also been announced, which could, for example, allow viewers to adjust stadium crowd/commentary noises, or allow blind/partially sighted viewers to access Audio Description of live sport. BT Sport is also trialling a private video chat service that allows fans to have real-time video chats with up to three friends, while watching BT Sports in the same app.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer division, states that “We’re creating even more ways for our customers to watch their favourite sport in stunning high definition, wherever they are. We’re working to offer our customers unrivalled choice, with the best content, the smartest devices, and the latest technology, through partnerships with the world’s most innovative companies.”

BT Sport customers can get the new app for free on Xbox by simply visiting the BT Sport home page or the Microsoft Store. Existing customers can use their BT Sport subscription login details, while new customers can access BT Sport from £9 per month with BT Broadband. EE customers on a Max plan can also join BT Sport by texting ‘Sport’ to 150, with BT Sport access available from £10 per month.
