Bupa increases focus on digital healthcare by furthering commitment to Microsoft Azure

Bupa, the international healthcare company, has further committed to migrating key applications in its leading markets to Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.

The company has over 31 million customers worldwide and provides services including health insurance, clinics, dental centres and hospitals.

The agreement, which applies to Bupa’s core markets globally, is designed to position Bupa at the forefront of digital healthcare. Dynamics 365, the business applications suite, will also be rolled out to Bupa teams in the UK and Australia.  Combining these with applications based in Azure will enable the organisation to offer more personalised, insight-led healthcare as part of its strategy to become the most customer-centric healthcare company in the world. It also aligns with Microsoft and Bupa’s joint sustainability goals, decreasing the carbon footprint involved with running on-premise data centres.

Diana Kennedy, Bupa’s Chief Technology and Architecture Officer, said: “Microsoft Azure services will enable Bupa to take a significant leap forward on our digital transformation journey. It will help us accelerate the delivery of digital solutions and improve services to our customers supporting our ambition to become the most customer-centric healthcare company in the world.”

Bupa’s use of Microsoft Azure services will enable it to be more agile, responding to the digital needs of employees and customers. Data plays a key role in this, and Bupa is looking to utilise machine learning and artificial intelligence to improve its engagement with clients and patients.

Michael Wignall, Azure Business Lead at Microsoft UK, said: “Microsoft Azure has the agility, security and flexibility that makes it the perfect cloud platform for use in the healthcare sector. It is already helping many organisations across the world to store and analyse huge amounts of data to unlock insights and growth opportunities. I’m delighted that Bupa has joined the growing list of companies committing to using Azure.”
