One of Hong Kong’s largest and most trusted public cloud to accelerate the city’s digital transformation

October 19, 2018, Hong Kong –– Microsoft today launches M-Series virtual machines (VMs) in Azure, with up to 4TB on a single VM available on the public cloud in Hong Kong. Offering one of the largest environments for a single VM in the public cloud for in-memory database workloads such as SAP HANA, Microsoft is currently offering this level of cloud computing power. To commemorate this milestone, Microsoft is also rolling out the SAP HANA® certified Azure M-series VMs in East Asia data center region in Hong Kong.

The M-series supports up to 128 virtual central processing units (vCPU) and between 192GB and four terabytes of memory on a single VM.  Seven of the different M-Series VM types can run SAP HANA configurations, including the M128 VM, which allows the build-out of scale-out SAP HANA configurations of up to 30TB. Data can also be transferred between VMs at up to 30 gigabytes per second, making it easy for companies to back up files or replicate their databases.

“We are glad to expand the partnership to accelerate the digital transformation journey of Hong Kong companies. Having the M-series virtual machines available in Hong Kong provides an extra peace of mind for companies, knowing their data is well protected and always there when they need it,” said Winnie Chu, Business Group Lead, Cloud & Enterprise, Microsoft . “With these larger virtual machine configurations, we are not only advancing the limits of virtualization in the cloud, but also providing an extra competitive edge with SAP HANA to Hong Kong companies in the digital world.”

“With SAP HANA running on Microsoft’s M-Series virtual machines in Azure, Hong Kong corporations now have the opportunity to turn their business data into actual value by leveraging real-time analytical capabilities without additional investments into infrastructure,” said Thomas Gerstner, Managing Director, SAP Hong Kong and Macau. “We look forward to working with Microsoft to support Hong Kong’s companies in their journey to move to the intelligent enterprise.”

The M-Series VMs are one of the only ones offered by any public cloud in Hong Kong with up to 4TB, enabling workloads like SAP HANA. Last December, Microsoft expanded its partnership with SAP to help companies move to the cloud and digitally transform their business.

In addition to M-series, Azure also offers specific products for SAP HANA that offer up to 20 terabytes of memory – one of the most offered by any public cloud.

Globally, firms including Accenture and Coca-Cola have already stated the move will benefit their operations and their digital transformation.
