Microsoft is looking to eradicate preventive blindness, through the Microsoft Intelligent Network for Eyecare (MINE) which will help redefine eyecare by bringing together the power of technology and knowledge of global experts. Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D), says, “This will include the rate of change of myopia in children, conditions that impact children’s eyesight, predictive outcomes of refractive surgery, optimal surgery parameters as well as ways to personalize a surgery and maximize its probability of success.”

Money Control: Adobe, Microsoft team up to share sales and marketing data

Microsoft Corp and Adobe Systems Inc are joining to make their respective sales and marketing software products more potent competitors to Salesforce.com Inc and Oracle Corp offerings, the two firms said. On the eve of San Jose, California-based Adobe’s annual user conference, the company said that it will work with Microsoft to create a shared data format between Adobe’s marketing software suite, which the company is re-naming its Experience Cloud, and Microsoft’s sales software, called Dynamics, allowing the software systems to work together seamlessly.

The final edition of ‘Codess’, a global engineering platform for women initiated by Microsoft, was held at the Microsoft India Development Centre in Hyderabad, recently. Charumathy Srinivasan, Partner Group Engineering Manager-Cloud and Enterprise Division said that Microsoft has organised the programme to develop capabilities and skills of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) areas. The event this year received a total of 1,200 plus applications from 40 colleges across the country. In addition to ‘Codess Microsoft also offers a programme called DigiGirlz for school girls.

The Indian Express: IIT Bombay launches Indian language Android keyboard ‘Swarachakra’

The Industrial Design Centre (IDC) in IIT Bombay has designed Swarachakra, a free Indian language keyboard for Android phones. Swarachakra is available in 12 Indian languages, and is integrated with the Better Together framework, which allows users to run an application on multiple phones at the same time. The Better Together toolkit and Swarachakra keyboard will be unveiled at the Microsoft Research in Bangalore.
