Bing shares the top global searches of 2013

New Delhi, India — Dec. 2, 2013 — Looking back on 2013, millions of searches on Bing from around India reveal it was a year of Bollywood stars, misty-eyed farewells to Sachin Tendulkar, Lungi Dance craziness and social networks becoming more pervasive than ever before. Bing search trends, found at www.BingTrends.com, indicate what has most captivated people around the world in 2013, and this year the report includes search data from India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S.

Most-searched in India
After all the hoop-la surrounding his retirement, you would think the most searched person in India would be Sachin Tendulkar. But he’s only fourth behind Salman ‘Dabangg’ Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif who take the top three spots.

While he may have led the search amongst actors, Salman’s films did not feature in the top ten most searched films. The fast paced action flick Race 2 bagged top honours followed by Shahrukh-starrer Chennai Express. And amongst the top 10 was Nasha, starring Poonam Pandey.

Shahrukh Khan may have missed top spot in the most searched actor and film but his Lungi Dance from Chennai Express made it to the top of charts as the most searched song in India. This was followed by Party on My Mind from Race 2 and Challa from Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Cricketers ruled the roost amongst the most searched sportspersons in India with the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar coming up tops, followed by the young and feisty Virat Kohli. The surprise entry here was Milkha Singh, the Flying Sikh, proving that the biopic on him did arouse curiosity about him in the country. Shuttlers Jwala Gutta and Saina Nehwal made sure that their sport was represented in the top ten dominated by cricketers.

Most-searched people around the world
Ladies appeared to rule 2013, as a woman was the most-searched person of the year in eight of the twelve participating countries around the world — Beyoncé reigned in the U.S., while Miley Cyrus’s highly publicized twerking made her the top-searched person in both Australia and Canada. Former flames Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were the most-searched people in the U.K. and Germany, respectively. Actress and actors Bruna Marquezine, Wen Zhang and Salman Khan were the most-searched people in Brazil, China and India, while singers Rihanna and David Bisbal ranked at the top for France and Spain, and gorgeous TV personalities Danmitsu and Belen Rodriguez were favorites in Japan and Italy.
