CIO India: Microsoft updates Dynamics CRM with a new IoT twist

There’s an update available for Microsoft’s Dynamics CRM 2016 – a brand new tool to help companies tap the Internet of Things (IoT) for their customer-service efforts. The Spring 2016 Wave of Dynamics CRM adds Connected Field Service, a new tool companies can soon use to leverage the potential of predictive maintenance via IoT devices. Param Kahlon, General Manager, Program Management for Dynamics CRM, Microsoft, explained, “For many service-oriented businesses, this represents a truly revolutionary shift from more of a reactive break-fix posture to a model that is built on predictive service.”

Bloomberg: Microsoft provides grants to accelerate affordable Internet access delivery

Microsoft announced it has awarded Affordable Access Initiative grants to 12 entrepreneurial businesses to help scale their solutions and business models to increase affordable Internet access in communities around the world. Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President of business development at Microsoft, said, “With more than half of the world’s population lacking access to the Internet, connectivity is a global challenge that demands creative problem solving. By using technology that’s available now and partnering with local entrepreneurs who understand the needs of their communities, our hope is to create sustainable solutions that will not only have impact today but also in the years to come.”

The sixth edition of India’s biggest social media festival, Social Media Week (SMW), is set to be organized on June 9-10. Based on the theme titled ‘The Invisible Hand: Hidden Forces of Technology (and how we can Harness it for Good)’, the event welcomes the modifications in technology that has changed the way people connect, consume and communicate. The event will have advertising film director Prahlad Kakkar, Microsoft marketer Jyotsna and Ahmed Aftab Naqvi, entrepreneur and founder of hybrid startup accelerator Sparknext, as speakers among others.

Meanwhile, Microsoft will handle the Xbox One physical release of the game, which will retail for $19.99 and also release on June 14th, 2016.

Microsoft has announced that Skype for Business App SDK Preview is now available for download. This new SDK will help developers integrate instant messaging, audio and video into their custom iOS and Android applications. James Skay, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Skype for Business, Microsoft, said, “Businesses can leverage the power of their existing Skype for Business Server and Online infrastructure, including the familiar native clients they use today, to reach customers previously inaccessible.”

CIO India: Microsoft tweaks IE11-Edge interoperability in Windows 10

Microsoft said it will introduce changes in this summer’s Windows 10 Anniversary Update to simplify switching from Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) to Edge, and back. The changes will be aimed at enterprises; the only customer group Microsoft recommends running IE11 in the new operating system. Previously, Microsoft included “Enterprise Mode” in Windows 10, a feature that lets an IT staff limit IE11’s operation to specific legacy websites or web apps.

ChannelWorld India: Now any Windows 10 user can use the Feedback Hub

Microsoft has now released its Feedback Hub to all Windows 10 users. Originally built for Windows Insider users, the Feedback Hub app lets users report bugs to Microsoft, as well as offer suggestions for making Windows 10 better. They can submit their own idea or suggestion to Microsoft, up vote and comment on ideas from other users, receive news on the Windows Insider program, rate Windows 10 builds overall, and complete feedback quests and earn badges as well.

The Economic Times: Less known Chinese search engine ties up with Microsoft

Microsoft has tied up with a relatively less known Chinese search engine, Sogou, to launch a new English language search portal. The move comes soon after Microsoft announced it was pulling out its Chinese language MSN search service from June 7. Microsoft has not confirmed the deal. The US giant entered into a deal with Baidu, the biggest Chinese search engine last September to make Baidu.com – the default search engine and home page in China for users of Microsoft’s Edge browser.
