Dalmia Bharat has announced a 4-month accelerator designed to mentor and invest in promising startups focused on smart city ideas. It’s a joint initiative between DLabs at ISB and Centre for Entrepreneurship at Ashoka University. The Dalmia Bharat AIM Smart City Accelerator Program is supported by Microsoft India, with focus on four broad verticals: healthcare, education, transportation and infrastructure. Microsoft will support this through its BizSpark program and the recently announced special initiative for Indian technology startups for smart cities. “This program will help entrepreneurs leverage Microsoft technology to develop innovative solutions that can support cities to become smart, sustainable and future-ready,” says Narendra Bhandari, General Manager and Developer Experience at Microsoft India.

The program recognizes educators and schools who have integrated technology in everyday learning process, contributing towards transforming the education ecosystem in India. Chosen through a rigorous process of selection, these educators and schools are now part of Microsoft’s global community of 3,700 MIE Experts and 400 Showcase Schools. “I am thrilled to welcome this group of passionate educators and schools who are using technology to drive real impact. At Microsoft, we remain committed to supporting the education community to transform learning environments and deliver more personalized education to students, allowing them to achieve more,” said Pratik Mehta, Director, Education at Microsoft India.

The gaming world is still buzzing after Remedy Entertainment announced a Windows 10 version of Quantum Break (and slightly more forgiving recommended requirements) but Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg says that the Xbox One is still a priority for the company. Speaking to Major Nelson on his latest podcast, Greenberg said, “People should know: Xbox is a big priority and a huge commitment. Please do not let the fact that we are also launching a game on the same day on Windows 10 change perspective on the importance of the console business [or] our commitment to innovating on console.”

Come February 17 and “Rocket League” will land on Xbox One, complete with a couple of extras made just for the platform. “Rocket League”, with its breakaway cars and soccer hybrid was an immediate success on both computer and console after its first launch in July 2015 on Windows PC.

NDTV: Microsoft reveals Windows 10 insider release preview ring for PCs & mobile

Microsoft introduced new test ring dubbed Windows Insider Release Preview ring for both PC and mobile. The company says that the new rings have been debuted to focus on Insiders, who will receive the current build. They will also continue to receive early access to updates, application updates, as well as driver updates. In a blog post, Gabe Aul, the Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team, also announced the next cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10586. It is now available for Insiders in the Fast Ring as Build 10586.107.

Tech2.com India: Microsoft apps will now be preloaded on Android devices

Microsoft has stated that its apps will soon be featured on Android devices in 2016. These new partners will soon offer Android devices pre-installed with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype. Most Microsoft services are available on Android devices such as LG G Pad 2, Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia Z4 and many others. The company says, “Our strategic agreements with these partners, in which IP alignment is an important feature, demonstrate how Microsoft is leveraging the scale of the hardware ecosystem, and working with partners in new ways to deliver rich experiences to our customers.”

EFY Times: Microsoft’s Chakra goes Open Source

Chakra, the JavaScript engine powering Microsoft’s latest browser Edge is going to be open sourced under MIT license. The new open sourced version is going to be called ChakraCore. As per Gaurav Seth, Chakra’s Principal Project Manager, “We’ve just made the sources for ChakraCore available under the MIT License at the ChakraCore GitHub repository ChakraCore GitHub repository. Going forward, we’ll be developing the key components of Chakra in the open.”
